Vitous on stage tonight
The Nick La Rocca Jazz Festival continues tonight with the performance of the Gerardo Di Lella Big Band – guest star bass virtuoso Miroslav Vitous. Born in Prague on 6 December 1947, Vitous started studying the violin at the age of six, the piano at ten and the double bass at fourteen, then completing his studies at Prague Music Conservatory and receiving a scholarship for Boston’s Berklee College of Music. In his career he has collaborated with many prestigious artists, including Chick Corea, Roy Haynes, Miles Davis and Wayne Shorter and Joe Zawinul and John McLaughlin. Vitous has also been one of the founders of the legendary Weather Report. Tonight’s show will be opened by the Dario Deidda Trio (guest Jerry Popolo). |
