Il festival
The aim of the Ischia Jazz Festival was to fill some ‘gaps’ in the spreading of quality music over our territory: there are realities which, if nourished, can be an opportunity for the cultural and economic growth of our reality.
The idea is to create a place and a space where local talents get an important opportunity to become known to the public and to international artists alike, starting an ‘on-the-field' collaboration, interacting on the stage and perhaps, in the future, organising workshops and stages for the younger ones. Music as a natural bridge of peace among people, with no frontiers, no categories, no borders: a message that is much more than a mere festival; Ischia Jazz wishes to be a far-reaching proposal, lasting over time and targeting an ever-growing audience showing interest in music as part of a great, deep-rooted heritage with close connections to the land, traditions, languages and cultures: a music that,
independent of where it is performed, takes with it centuries of history and contaminations.
We live in a land with a great history and civilisation, and with a strong, passionate soul, which has lived through clashing emotions, suffering and hope, and has a musical spirit that has given rise to ideas, overwhelming creativity, genius. It has also long been the cradle of universal values like peace and tolerance, and for that has become the ideal meeting point for different cultures, which manage to know each other and to communicate beyond languages, or better through the universal languages of the soul – like music.
“If an event conceived this way can stand in the roots of the ancient culture of the beautiful Green Island and make its sites, symbols and landscapes, so rich culturally and historically, fantastic stages of targeted events, then we can be sure that event will become part of the history of this island, and can give a major contribution to its cultural and tourist development", says Marco Zurzolo, art director of the Festival.
For four days, Ischia will then become a citadel of music, with performances and concerts featuring cultural exchanges and contaminations with Italian and international artists.
